Kingdoms of Camelot

Review

Kingdoms of Camelot is a 2D MMORTS set in Camelot; you’ll serve as a Lord of King Arthur himself, and be appointed your own plot of land and tasked with building a new kingdom from the ground up.

Following a similar vein to other MMORTS titles, such as Evony Online, your goal in Kingdoms of Camelot is a simple one: build an empire, gather resources, train an army and lead your troops to battle. Though, as Kingdoms of Camelot is a Facebook game, the emphasis is placed on allowing new players and casual gamers a chance to experience the MMORPG genre without prior knowledge of the style and mechanics.

During the tutorial phase you’ll be introduced to many basic MMORTS concepts, such as collecting food to feed your villages and troops, wood, stone and iron to construct new buildings and defenses, and gold to help fuel your research and unlock advanced technologies. Additionally, as a new player, you are given a ‘grace period’ that will last several days, and prevent you from being attacked by other players.

This will give you sufficient time to learn the fundamentals of Kingdoms of Camelot, set up sufficient defenses and build an army that will help defend your city from attack. Once you’ve obtained the Knight’s Hall building, you can then hire your friends on Facebook as Knight’s that can help to defend your city further, and fuel the fires of war should you desire to expand your influence across the nation.

You’ll also be given a variety of quests in Kingdoms of Camelot, a relatively rare addition to the MMORTS genre, which will help to guide your hand as you progress through the game. If you find yourself unsure of what to do next, pick up a quest and follow the instructions; before long you’ll have hired additional troops, or upgraded your Town Hall, and you’ll be back in the game, ready for action.

Kingdoms of Camelot is the most popular MMORTS on Facebook for a reason: its simplicity doesn’t affect its gameplay. It may not suit all types of players, but for those interested in the genre, it makes a wonderful place to learn the ropes and participate in social activities. Remember, in order to hire a Knight, you’ll need to have friends on your Facebook Account. Feeling social?
