Review
Luna Online is a Fantasy MMORPG with over 40 available class choices and a large emphasis on co-operation and social events. Popular in Asia, Luna places a much heavier emphasis on social matchmaking and elements than most other free-to-play titles. Starting out, players will create a character from one of two races: Humans and Elves. The differences between the two are minor; only slight variations in stats which can be overcome by equipment later on; however, they do look different and allow some individuality for your choice of class.
There are also three classes to choose from: The Fighter, Mage and Rogue. Three classes may not sound like a lot at first glance, though as you level up (level 5, 20, 40, and 75) you'll be able to specialize into a sub-class within one of the three core classes. Unlike most other games, you're able to switch between subclasses regardless of your previous choice; giving you a lot of freedom when deciding what you want to do, and a lot of variation should you get bored with just whacking things with a sword.
Like many other free-to-play MMORPGs, you'll have the opportunity to run around, hack things down, explore the world, and hack more things while completing a number of quests. And, like many other free-to-play MMORPGs, Luna Online features only a slight variation in monsters throughout areas, with a few key types and then a few varying sizes and colours in each zone. Though, what does help Luna stand apart from the crowd are the aforementioned social aspects. On top of the obvious inclusion of guild/clan functions, players can form families, participate in matchmaking, date, run a farm together, and more.
Matchmaking starts by asking you to fill out a profile of likes, dislikes, and so on. Once you do, the game will look at other players’ responses and set you up with other NPCs for Date Instances. When a date starts, you're taken to an area for just the two of you, where you can quest, hunt, or just hang out and chat, without other players bugging you. Of course, given that these kinds of games have a lot of guys playing as female characters, I wouldn't get too connected to the idea of establishing a real life relationship, because you never know who's on the other end of that avatar. As you play with other players, your Relations will improve, granting the family, pair, friends, yourself, etc. bonuses. Families are like guilds, but limited to five players.
As families improve their standing, you can build items, unlock bonuses, and most importantly own a farm. Farms serve as a homestead for families, where players can grow crops, store items, raise animals, and more.
Luna Online is a simple, yet powerfully innovative MMORPG with a multitude of social features that make it perfect for a casual or new player; though, with 40 class option, it perfectly suits the hardcore gamer, too, making Luna Online a title you don’t want to miss.
