MapleStory Adventures is a free-to-play 2D side-scrolling MMO for
Facebook, currently being developed by Nexon. Continuing the adventure of the extremely successful main title MapleStory, Adventures takes players into a new chapter where the Black Mage has escaped his seal and returned to Maple. Players will embark on a journey to stop the evil mages plans and seal him away for good.
Acting as a lite version of MapleStory by incorporating some basic gameplay and features, MapleStory Adventures provides an equally exciting experience all within the confines of Facebook. Create a customizable avatar to begin the main questline, killing monsters and collecting items for the locals. The game uses a leveling system similar to other MMO’s, while skills are performed with an energy bar. Each hit a player makes causes the avatar to lose an energy point; more energy can be obtained by hiring friends to help you in the form of an NPC companion or by receiving energy items as a gift from your friends. This means the speed at which you level will be determined by how many friends you have.
Upon completing quests, gaining xp and leveling up; players can upgrade skills. Skills in MapleStory Adventures aren’t on a hotbar so to speak; you equip your spells one at a time on a panel and are required to switch them out here before your next attack. Skills are generally situational rather than part of a rotation, whether you need to attack a group or one target; there is a skill suited for both.
All the action takes place on maps much like in MapleStory; maps lead along different paths throughout the world and have different level requirements to access them. Some maps contain Bosses which any player may stumble across and defeat, if someone beats you to them however you may have to wait over an hour for another chance. This feature like in MapleStory can make camping a map and important part of obtaining rare loot or finishing quests, and players are rewarded for their efforts.
Every hero needs to be equipped with all the gear to defeat the monsters in the world, and the game offers straight forward sets of gear to keep players at the top of their game; no min/max skills required. To show some variety between the avatars however, MapleStory Adventures allows players to equip Fashion Costumes over the top of their armor.
To keep players busy the game also offers Enchanting and Crafting, both reward the player greatly. Enchanting allows players to improve the stats of their armor, increasing the player’s effectiveness against monsters. Crafting on the other hand allows players to create different items which will provide the player with gold or various special items. For a
