Venizia is a true-to-history business management Browser-Based MMO set during the Italian Renaissance. Your goal is to become the richest and most renowned trade prince in all of the Mediterranean, but you won’t be alone.

As a browser-based game there are no downloads to stop you from jumping straight into the action and signing up takes mere seconds. Venizia is also one of the few browser games that doesn’t require flash, so it’s suitable for all PC and Mac users as well.

From the beginning you’ll be competing against other traders from all over the world. Venizia’s tutorial is quick and easy to understand, which gives you the freedom to do whatever your merchant heart desires as soon as you start.

Venizia stays true to history, showing exactly what life was like for people in the Mediterranean during the Italian renaissance. The various cities are gorgeously illustrated and heavily populated with characters to that can influence your business.  You might wish to get on the local governor’s good side to help your trade or sail with fearsome under-handed pirates to protect your goods.

Numerous minigames have been included with the ability to build farms, factories and buying and selling your land. The minigames have more purpose than simple time-wasters too: The fishing minigame for example allows catching fish to sell, feeding your staff for free or gaining prestige in your city.

As a merchant you’ll have to choose exactly what you want to sell. Some merchants get rich quickly by selling luxurious but rare goods; others sell food or building materials, which are always in high demand and through careful planning they dominate that market.

At first you’ll only be capable of selling small amounts at a time, but as your trade empire grows your ability to carry more stock grows with it. The profit you get from selling can be used to buy new cargo ships, which means you can carry more stock to sell, which means even more profit, and so on.

As the head of your empire you can control your fleet, but that will get harder for you as your fleet grows in size. Instead of doing everything yourself, you can select specialised captains for each of your ships. Once your ship has a captain, you can command it as an entirely different vessel; it could become a fishing boat as well as a cargo ship.

Overall, Venizia is a wonderfully detailed and intricate business management game, perfectly suited for casual players who don’t have hours at a time to spare, as you can begin playing in minutes, and only need to play for small periods of time each day.
