More than one million active users for Grepolis
Hamburg, 16th of March. Three months after its start, the browser based online game Grepolis has today reached the mark of 1 million active users. Publisher InnoGames was thrilled about this dynamic growth. "We were confident before the start, but we never expected Grepolis to grow that fast”, InnoGames CEO Hendrik Klindworth revealed.
Grepolis is a strategy game, set in the Ancient Greece. The players start on a small Polis (Greek for town), with a fistful of swordsmen. It is their task to build it up into a prosperous metropolis with a strong army and navy. Therefore, they have to prove their skills in strategy, trade and diplomacy. On their trip to glory and honor, the players should also take care about the gods of the Greek mythology: Zeus’, Hera, Athena and Poseidon grace will decide about your victory or defeat.
“Grepolis is a game which offers a high long term motivation. Many new buildings and technologies are available at the late-game. As the tactical and strategic circumstances are very dynamic in single worlds with 30.000 players, it is granted that the players frequently have to face new challenges”, says Eike Klindworth, who has founded InnoGames together with his brother Hendrik and their school friend Michael Zillmer in 2007.
Grepolis has been nominated for the prestigious ¾Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2009“, when it was still in the beta phase. The German version of Grepolis was published in December 2009, one month later, InnoGames started the internationalization. Today, Grepolis is available in 14 different languages. www.grepolis.com is one of the top 1.000 internet pages in ten different countries, according to the information service Alexa. Especially, Portuguese, French, Dutch, German and British users are attracted by the game at the moment. Currently, InnoGames starts one or two new versions per week.
