Do you remember Shadowrun? You should: there’ve been more iterations of the Shadowrun world across more platforms than there are free to play fantasy MMORPGs on our website. Back in the day, Shadowrun was a Pen & Paper RPG, and since has sparked multiple series’ of novels and video games stretching as far back as the SNES, and more recently, the Xbox 360 and Windows.
It seems each time a new Shadowrun adventure is attempted, it’s made in a completely new style. From RPGs to Shooters, it’s been around the block: next up? Why, an MMO, naturally.
And it’s shaping up pretty nicely. At least, it will be if the $500,000 pledge is met within the next 19 days. Here’s a peek at some gameplay:
Looking pretty cool, I say. Of course, if we want to see more, then we’re going to have to pay a bit for it. Luckily, the bonuses on offer for pledges on Kickstarter are some of the best we’ve seen to date, ranging from Beta Access and Swag all the way to designing your own Campaign Mission with the developers and having your character appear in advertisements and bumper-stickers throughout the game world.
As to the game itself, there’s a hell of a lot to be excited about. One of my favourite features is the barrier they’re planning to draw between retail and free to play: in short, there will be two servers, one for each, and both with operate under unique rules. For example, an in-game cash shop will be present on the F2P server that will allow players to purchase items for real currency. And it seems the same shop will be available on the Retail Server; however, only in-game currency can be used, thereby removing any chance of game breaking balance concerns for players who find the F2P business model poisonous.
Wow, look at me; I’m gushing. Okay, okay – I’m a long-time Shadowrun fan, and the possibility of seeing this badass futuristic sci-fi world make the jump to the online space is much too juicy to stand idly by – so head over to the Kickstarter page now and pledge your support!
