Bethesda is trying to entice new players to heed the call of Tamriel and so far it seems to be doing it pretty well. A free play weekend was just announced, allowing anyone to play the game, spend a bit in the in-game shop and even enter the big Trip of a Lifetime contest. The Elder Scrolls Online free play weekend starts tomorrow and ends on November 20, and is available for PC/Mac via Steam as well as PlayStation 4 users, with an Xbox One free play weekend to follow soon.
Everyone joining The Elder Scrolls Online in this free play period will have access to the full Tamriel Unlimited base game and receive 500 crowns as a bonus to spend in the in-game shop on pets, scrolls or costumes. At the end of the free play period, players who upgrade to a paid account will save all their progress and purchases.
PC/Mac users can download the game via Steam starting at 1pm EST tomorrow while PS4 users can already download the game on the PlayStation store at 12.01am EST.
For NA players who already own The Elder Scrolls Online, there are discounts until November 28 on all Crown packs as well as all versions of the game, including the Gold Edition which contains all four major DLC packs.
This is a great chance for new players to try out The Elder Scrolls Online and it’s a pretty great time to get in the game as well: the One Tamriel update applied worldwide level scaling so existing players can join their friends and show them around. It’s unfortunate that Xbox One players have to wait, but hopefully not for very long.
