The top-down mech-based shooter from WG Labs is on its way at the end of the month as the team announce the Hybrid Wars release date in a press release.
Hybrid Wars styles itself as a “90’s nostalgia classic top-down shooter” title that features three mercenaries, eight large open world maps and over 150 different objectives to complete. Players control one of three mercenaries depending on the version of the game purchased, with gameplay taking place either on foot or in several different mechs and vehicles that can be swapped out on the fly. Hybrid Wars will release with both single-player and multiplayer co-op modes, with more multiplayer modes promised to release completely free.
Hybrid Wars will launch on PC, Mac and Linux through Steam or GOG on September 29th in either a Standard Edition which will include two mercenaries, or a Deluxe Edition with all three mercs, a digital art book and a soundtrack. A gameplay trailer can be seen below.
Between this game and others like Livelock and Master X Master, the age of the top-down shooter seems to be seeing a resurgence. Hybrid Wars looks like it will provide shooter fans with lots of non-stop action. We’re looking forward to seeing how well this game can scratch our trigger finger.
What do you think about Hybrid Wars? Are you happy that classic top-down shooters are making a comeback, or do you think it’s just another phase? Give us your opinion below.
