Intel has teamed up with Steam, Unreal, and Unity to present Level Up 2015, a game design competition that encourages developers to push the limits of gaming. Teams of artists, designers, and engineers must work together to design demos optimized for 2 in 1 PCs.
“Invent the future of gaming experiences in the 2015 edition of the Intel Level Up Developer Contest. Create an innovative new game that takes advantage of the touchscreen and adaptability of 2 in 1s for the chance to win thousands in cash, industry recognition, and the opportunity to distribute your game on Steam!”
Entries submitted must install and run on a 2 in 1 PC with Microsoft Windows 8.1, a 64-bit operating system, and an Intel processor. Playable demos from complete games are allowed, as long as the demo and the title have not yet been released for retail. Here is a list of competition categories:
- 1 (one) Grand Prize Category:
- Game of the Year
- 5 (five) Game Genre Prizes in following Categories:
- Best Puzzle/Physics Game
- Best Platformer Game
- Best Adventure / Role Playing
- Best Action Game
- Best Game – “Open Genre” (game demo that does not fit into above 4 genres)
- 5 (five) Skills & Craft Prizes in following Categories:
- Best Art Design
- Best Sound
- Best Game with 3D Graphics
- Best Character Design
- Best Use of Game Physics
- 1 (one) Special Prize Category:
- Best Linux Game w/ Full Controller Support
All submissions will receive an opportunity to be featured on Intel.com; winning games may also be featured on Steam. Grand Prize winners receive $5,000 USD, a feature space on Steam, and an opportunity to complete their game. Genre, Skills & Craft, and Specialty Category winners will receive $3,000 USD.
Past winners include Blackwell’s Asylum, Perfection, and the critically acclaimed indie giant, Duet. The competition began on March 2 at 12:01 AM PST; it ends May 13 at 11:59 PST.
