Later this year, NCSoft is expected to release two new games based on the Lineage franchise.
Codenamed Project L and Project RK, both games are expected to release on Android and iOS during the first part of 2016. Project L will be a recreation of the original Lineage for mobile devices. It will attempt to keep the graphics and gameplay in line with what fans of the PC MMORPG expect.
On the other hand, Project RK (Red Knights) will feature cutesy graphics and will take place in a time period 150 years before Lineage 2. In Lineage Red Knights, players will be able to band together with guild members to build giant fortresses. Guilds will then be tasked with defending their fortress or raiding enemy guilds.
Unlike Project L, which appears to follow the traditional PC MMORPG format, it looks like Red Knights will be more aligned with the typical mobile MMORPG. Both games are scheduled to launch in Korea this year, but whether they’re coming to the rest of the world is currently unknown.
The mobile scene is currently lacking true MMORPGs and it’s possible that Lineage could fill this void. Red Knights, however, appears to follow the mobile gaming mold, but let’s hope that it takes the gameplay up a notch.
