Earlier this year, at E3 we learned about an upcoming mobile Star Wars game being developed by EA. Since then we haven’t heard much about the project, but apparently it’s now available worldwide for Android and iOS devices.
Initially, the project was announced as a trading card game, and we expected it to be a competitor of Hearthstone, but it appears to utilize more of the RPG/CCG hybrid approach. In reality, it’s more like players are collecting iconic characters and gameplay acts more like a turn-based strategy game, similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, than a card game.
In Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, players can collect heroes from all six movies and the various animated television shows, such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Each character has multiple attacks and abilities that can complement other heroes on your team. Additionally, players can choose to represent either the light side, or the powerful dark side of the force in battles that span every era of the Star Wars universe.
It’s a little disappointing that EA didn’t follow through with building a strategic card game and instead went the RPG route with Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. However, the feedback for the game seems positive overall, but like many other EA titles it’s filled with microtransactions.
