Back in the heady days of two months ago, developer Roberts Space Industries revealed on the office forums that Star Citizen was likely to clock in at around 100gb in size.
Jeremy Masker: The size and number of assets that are left to deliver means that our client size is much more likely to be 100 GB
That’s a vast amount of files. A huge amount of files. Much like the amount recently netted by people in a leak. PC Gamer and Reddit have posted about a leak caused by a community manager posting a partial URL in a screenshot. An easy mistake to make and we’ve all done things like that.
This though has let a few people outside of Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts Space Industries get their hands on around 48gb of Star Citizen assets. All of those assets should be considered works in progress of course. Naturally enough there’s a video up on Youtube showing the assets running in Cryengine.
My favourite part is the disclaimer at the start. Naturally people should not take these as indicative of the final state of the game and well we also don’t have the developers tools. Still, it’s a peek behind the curtain at the behemoth that is Star Citizen in both terms of download and terms of crowdfunding.
