Since April 2016 we’ve been following CCP’s journey to make the spiritual successor to Dust 514, called Project Nova. Today CCP announced that Project Nova is postponed indefinitely while they start over. Press and fans alike got their first glimpse at the game during EVE Vegas this year. Since then they have had small, private player tests to work on the game. But, ultimately, they have decided that in its current form the game isn’t what they had originally intended.
Now CCP’s plan is to go back to the drawing board and start all over again. They still have the one universe, one war ideal in mind. In the announcement made on the Project Nova website, CPP offers heartfelt apologies for the disappointment that has been caused. Adding, “We hope you understand that we need to take a step back and return to the drawing board, where we will spend more time figuring out how all this hard work can translate into something better and more meaningful for the EVE Universe. Remaining true to our vision of Project Nova’s future in connection with EVE is essential.”
The letter to the fans ended with, “Project Nova continues to evolve and we remain committed to delivering a high-quality team-based shooter experience to EVE Online fans, while exploring new and exciting opportunities to integrate the two games. CCP is in no rush to release Project Nova until we’re satisfied it provides a rock-solid gameplay experience and visuals to match.”
So, it would seem that they are indeed going to be continuing to work on Project Nova. Perhaps in a few years, we’ll be back here talking about the game again as fans once more get their hands on the game. For now, we at least still have EVE Echoes to look forward to.
