Warcraft Movie Goldshire Inn Preview, Stormwind Park & Warlords of Draenor Free

Legendary have released a new featurette showing off the Warcraft movie Goldshire Inn. The verdict? Oh it’s looking good.

The Lion’s Pride Inn is perfect World of Warcraft‘s most infamous. Surrounding by duelling players and on roleplay servers, usually containing hordes of naked.. well, everything. Night Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes. It is also the first inn for Human characters, and so overall it is perhaps the most visited in Azeroth and it’s exciting to us players to see its faithful replication in this small featurette! There’s even more detail than we see in-game, so not only does it capture World of Warcraft‘s Goldshire Inn, but it feels real. Here’s the featurette:

The Return of the Stormwind Park At Last

Meanwhile in Stormwind, Blizzard have announced that the Stormwind Park is finally being rebuilt! Burnt to a cinder when Deathwing brought about the Cataclysm, players have been without the previously luscious Stormwind Park since the very end of Wrath of the Lich King and it feels like you can swing a cat in the Warcraft community without some mention of the park being rebuilt some days, so we’re glad to hear that it will make a return when Legion drops, even if we did have to wait 3 expansions (6 years) for it. We’re just not sure we’re ready for the reasons why…

Warlords of Draenor Free For a Limited Time

Inactive World of Warcraft players may well have a surprise in their email inbox as Blizzard invite older players back with a free copy of Warlords of Draenor, which also includes 7 days of playtime and a level 90 character boost. It looks as though the offer will expire on May 16th, however, so if you plan to check out Draenor for free you’ll have to act on it quickly. We expect that once you opt in, you will permanently have Warlords of Draenor unlocked for your account, as well. Thanks very much to Chestnut for the tip!

Legion Pre-Launch Event Puts the Doom into Doomsayer

This week’s Alpha patch added one of the most highly anticipated parts of any new expansion, the pre-launch event. Taking inspiration from the beloved and/or despised zombie invasion of Wrath of the Lich King, the 7.0 event coming later this year brings back the doomsayers and their oh-so-helpful pamphlets, while also allowing you to become a Dreadlord for 1 minute (yes, really), allowing you to spread destruction and pain to all in your wake upon the completion of a short task.

Rewards, except for a single achievement, are yet to be added and the Dark Whispers that start this event are opt-in and can be dispelled, saving some of the minor heart-ache caused when the Zombie Plague came to town.

Legion’s Flight-Unlocking Meta Achievement Gets Details

Also in today’s Alpha update is the first part of the Pathfinder meta achievement which unlocks the ability for players to fly in the Broken Isles at a later date when a further achievement is completed, we’re assuming based off the big “part one” bit. At the moment completing this first step will reward you with improved mount speed to tide you over until they are done making sure everything works with Broken Isles flight and you can’t just skip large chunks of content from the get-go.

To unlock this achievement you will need to:

  • Complete the Class Hall campaign
Explore the map of Broken Isles
Earn Revered with six Broken Isles reputations
    Complete 100 World Quests
Comple the major Legion storyline quests

Our Thoughts

So there’s lots of news about the Elwynn area of Azeroth today and we’re okay with that. These early-level zones are always going to fill people with nostalgia so of course we want to see them represented well in their new iterations. We do wonder whether the Stormwind Park will be rebuilt to faithfully represent its original model, or whether they’ll take Guild Wars 2‘s Lion’s Arch approach and go all out. We expect the latter, considering it’s to contain “a monument of such significance.” So probably a little more than Druid trainers, then.

The free Warlords of Draenor promotion is also incredibly welcome. It is not the first time Blizzard have run such an offer, and likely won’t be the last, but it’s always welcome!
