Rappelz is a traditional 3D Fantasy MMORPG set in a medieval world that features three races, three classes, five sub-classes, and a unique combat pet system. Much like World of Warcraft, in Rappelz you’re first asked to choose your race from the possible Deva, Gaia and Asura selections, and depending on your choice, you’ll have access to different class options that can be changed later through a sub-class system.

Choosing your class is by far the most important choice you’ll be asked to make in the beginning stages of Rappelz, as it will determine not only how you look and where you’ll begin playing, but also what classes are available to you. However, no matter your race, each class follows down the path of the standard MMORPG archetypes; the Warrior, the Mage and the Healer.

The User Interface in Rappelz is also similar to that found in World of Warcraft. As such, managing your inventory, skills, and character in Rappelz is straight forward and easy. You'll begin on a relatively small island which basically serves as the beginner zone and a tutorial.

Here you will master the Rappelz’s controls and combat mechanics through a series of beginner quests designed to help you familiarise yourself with the fundamentals of the game. Much like many other MMORPGs, this portion of Rappelz is simple to grasp, and will see you fluent with the controls, interface and mechanics in a matter of hours.

You’ll also learn how to apply skill points to your character when you obtain a new level; this is a fundamental element of Rappels, as where you place your skill points will determine how well you can use specific elements of the game. For example, if you put points in summoning you'll be able to use pets to assist you. Even if you don't specialize in summoning, all players should put some points in the summoning skill in order to make use of the mounts, which greatly increase movement speed.

The North American version of Rappelz is currently on Epic 4 (AKA the fourth gameplay expansion).
