S4 League is a 3D, Sci-Fi MMOFPS that features fast-paced, action-packed gameplay in multiple game modes such as deathmatch and capture the flag. However, unlike the vast majority of MMOFPS titles, which offer little to no character customization, S4 League takes a leaf from the MMORPG notebook and offers a delicious selection.

Character creation in S4 League includes picking a gender, clothes, and hair style and color. All new players start with the same submachine guns and sword, before beginning a short, optional tutorial which shouldn't take more than five to 10 minutes, but will help familiarize you with the fundamental elements of the game.

The tutorial has voice instructions to make the concepts of the MMOFPS easier to grasp to new players; most gamers familiar with the MMOFPS genre won't need a tutorial to figure out S4 League, it uses basic WASD controls and aiming/firing is done with the mouse. Even so, it’s definitely worth playing through the tutorial anyway, as doing so will net you a comfortable reward - 5,000 PEN – S4 Leagues in-game currency.

New players start with plenty of PEN, but earning additional PEN and experience is slow paced compared to rival free shooters. The item shop is well stocked with new clothes, hair styles, face styles and other cosmetics. These appearance items add more than looks though, clothes can be augmented to increase specific stats such as a player's weapon proficiency.

S4 League supports 2 to 12 players per game and features two game modes - Death Match or Touch Down. In Touch Down, the team that brings a ball that spawns in the middle of the map back to their side first wins. Each time a side scores, a new round begins. But beware: in this fast-paced game players must keep moving or die almost instantly. Higher level players will have some advantage over beginners, but even the starting guns are powerful. Like in GunZ, players can perform some fancy tricks, such as dashing forward and bouncing off walls.

Additionally, a lot of objects in S4 League can be destroyed. This is not limited to crates and barrels, even pieces of roofs and bridges can be destroyed. Like most video games, however, unless you're playing with friends there will be a lack of teamwork, which can be frustrating since S4 League has nothing but team modes.

Like GunZ, players in S4 League have multiple weapon types to choose from, ranging from submachine guns, rifles and bazookas to melee swords. S4 League may be new, but it already has a large community and finding a match is never difficult. The game also has a nice sci-fi/techno theme, which differentiates it from other games in the MMOFPS genre, and helps to highlight the innovation that S4 League strives to provide.
