Valve has just revealed the 12 teams invited to the Dota 2 Major event in Manila, Philippines.
Starting on June 7, the top 16 Dota 2 teams from around the world will be facing off for a $3 million prize pool at the Manila Major. . Among the invited include premier organizations, such as Fnatic, Team Secret, and Evil Geniuses. The event will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena, where ESL One concluded last week, and is scheduled to culminate on June 12, 2016.
In addition to the teams invited, there will be four Regional Qualifiers to round out the top 16 teams. From May 3-6, there will be 10 teams competing from each region: Americas, China, Europe and SEA. There have been eight teams invited to each Regional Qualifier so far, and the remaining two spots for bracket will be filled by winners of the Open Qualifiers.
Although it seems like a rather long and difficult journey, registration is currently available to any teams looking to participate in the Open Qualifiers. The Open Qualifiers are being organized by FaceIt for teams in the Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia. ESL & NeoTV are handling the Open Qualifiers in China.
Shifting the Dota 2 Major scene from a single event to multiple competitions spread throughout the year has not only increased the game’s visibility, but it has also allowed more teams to participate. This is a great thing for eSports, and even though it’s unlikely any team will climb through the Open Qualifiers and Regional Qualifiers, it’s still beneficial to provide that potential opportunity.
