Sea of Thieves Provides Initial Information on The Hungering Deep

All we knew about Sea of Thieves’ The Hungering Deep content patch up to this point is that there’s a big undersea critter out there. With the launch of a new landing page for the update, however, we’ve got a few more substantial details.

the hungering deep

The Hungering Deep will kick off a limited-time campaign where players must follow clues and riddles to find out what happened to “Merry” Merrick. Players are suggested to listen to talk in the taverns from a group of adventurers known as the Bilge Rats as they search for something “old, vast and hungry”. Those who successfully track down “Merry” Merrick can then take on the mysterious undersea threat, all while earning unique cosmetics in the process.

Along with the limited-time campaign associated, more permanent features will be included. Players will get to play on a new drum instrument, fly flags over their ships, shout out orders or converse at distance with new Speaking Trumpets, and unlock a variety of new cosmetics in the form of scars and tattoos. Additionally, the underwater beastie being added in the update will stick around for those brave enough to take it on.

The Hungering Deep will yawn open wide for players of Sea of Thieves as a free update this coming Tuesday, May 29th.

Our Thoughts

Yep, this definitely isn’t quite the largest of updates, just like producer Joe Neate mentioned in the first developer update video. Still, the addition of a new undersea monster to hunt certainly sounds interesting. Do you think this update is enough of a fresh injection of content, or does this leave you wanting more?
