Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior is an upcoming expansion for the first-person medieval combat game, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Gathering some of the most iconic warriors from history, the new expansion allows players to pit these warriors against each other in battle and answer the ultimate question; who is the deadliest warrior? I decided to find out.
Deadliest Warrior not only introduces a whole new range of classes to choose from, it also offers players a set of brand new maps to assist in recreating historical battles. Additionally, the expansion includes several new game modes including some rather chaotic multi-team gamemodes that bring confusion and anarchy to the battlefield; but that’s just the start.
If you are unfamiliar with Chivalry and currently stand oblivious to what you are missing out on then stop right now and do some reading on Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Instead of taking the normal press route and obtaining a press copy of the game, I took out my wallet and handed over my cash to the brilliant developers over at Torn Banner Studios. With access to the Chivalry Deadliest Warrior beta, I jumped in to battle and lost myself in to the earlier hours of the morning discovering what the devs are bringing to the table.
Samurai: Military of Nobility
The Samurai class is a disciplined warrior notable for its speed and precision with weapons such as the Katana or Yari Spear. As a Samurai on the battlefield players must emphasise on their ability to make quick and disciplined attacks in order to maximize their potential.
Attacks are made in heavy, precise motions, leaving players who slash wildly a worn out and sluggish warrior. Samurai’s can equip swords, blunt weapons, spears, and bows to take in to battle – with a heavy emphasis on swords for obvious reasons. Sadly there’s no Hari Kari.
Spartan: Warrior from Birth
As a Spartan, strength comes in numbers as these formidable foes quickly become an impenetrable force when grouped up. Standing behind their large shield wall, you truly feel like you could defy gods in battle. Spartans are master of the sword, shield and spear.
The Spartan plays a more defensive role, able to take repeated heavy blows to their shield without breaking a sweat. Those who want to play more conservatively yet still have the ability to poke a million holes in other players will enjoy playing as a Spartan warrior.
Viking: Raiders of Old Europe
Essentially the most savage of the historical archetypes in Chivalry Deadliest Warrior, Vikings are equipped with an arsenal of crude but versatile weapons. Balancing between various defensive and offensive play, Vikings can equip a multitude of weapons including swords, spears, and blunt weapons. As a jack-of-all-trades class, Vikings are best suited to those who aren’t sure what their playstyle is yet and want to try a bit of everything.
While Vikings don’t have the fanciest equipment in the armory, they excel at overwhelming their enemies with quick repeated attacks. Add this on top of their battle cries and you have one fearsome foe on your hands. Tonight we dine in the halls of Valhalla my brother!
Knight: Defenders of Monarch
Defenders of justice and servants to the crown, Knights are a symbol of power and durability. Donning a full suit of armor, Knights are not only strong on defense but also have access to a wide variety of weaponry – similar to the Vikings, although of higher quality.
Chivalry players will already be extremely familiar with the Knight class, so there won’t be anything too surprising awaiting players. The Knight, while an extremely tanky class, paints itself as a large target meaning that players will be quick to gang up on this heavy hitter.
Ninja: Covert Agent
Mercenary of fuedal Japan and covert agent, the Ninja makes a necessary appearance in Chivalry Deadliest Warrior. Ninjas are a master of staff and blade, with weapons such as the iconic Ninjato sword and the Tekko Kaji claws. Additionally the Ninja can equip smoke and incendiary bombs that can shift the tide of battle or disrupt it completely.
The Ninja is extremely fast and agile, given the ability to perform quick rolls that allow Ninjas to dodge attacks or maneuver around players for a quick jab. While they possess extra speed and agility, they are also the weakest of the warriors meaning that avoiding hits is of the highest priority. Though sometimes the best defense is a good offense.
Pirate: Raiders of the High Seas
Probably one of the most recognizable warriors of history between all generations, the Pirate brings firepower to the battlefield. Bearing firearms, swords, and axes the Pirate assaults the enemy with hit-and-run tactics and loads of explosive gunpowder.
While the Pirate may not be the most proficient swordfighter, their firearms literally blow their opponents away. The intensity of the battles are really taken up a notch when the allies by your side are being torn apart by guns. For full effect, let your enemy get real close before blowing off their head. Yarr matey, it’s a murderous show!
Making a return appearance from Chivalry Medieval Warfare, players can battle it out in several game modes. These include Duel, Free For All, Team Deathmatch, and Last Team Standing. The environments these matches take place in do a great job of representing the themes and locations behind the different classes in Chivalry Deadliest Warrior.
From the home of the ancient Greeks, with its own bottomless pit for those who want to re-enact 300, to a tropical island filled with pirates treasure – players have a whole selection of new maps to fight on.
