The final job for Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood was revealed today at the FFXIV Fan Festival in Frankfurt, Germany. As expected, the second new class in the upcoming expansion will be the Samurai, however, it will not be a tank class, which many fans expected it to be.
Just like the Red Mage, the Samurai will not be associated with other classes and begins at level 50. This is great for players who simply don’t have enough time to re-reroll another level 1 character, but the original job system from A Realm Reborn did add a nice touch for each of the endgame classes.
With the information that was released, the Samurai playstyle sounds similar to that of the Ninja. The class will build up energy with its katana in order to unleash powerful, special attacks. Samurais are the master of the art of ‘Sen’ and ‘Iai’ sword style.
Although some fans were disappointed with another DPS release, it appears that Square Enix wants to focus on balancing the current healer and tank classes before adding more into the game. Additionally, there were two new story characters revealed by director Naoki Yoshida: Samurai Gosetsu and the Ninja Yugiri.
In the upcoming expansion, players will finally be able to travel to another continent. Eorzea is technically made up of three continents, but so far players have not left Aldenard. Players in Stormblood will travel to Othard where the focus will be the Ala Mhigo and Doma.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be available on June 20, 2017, and can currently be pre-ordered from the official Square Enix website.
Our Thoughts
The Red Mage already looked amazing, but now with the reveal of the samurai we’re even more excited. However, we can only imagine how awful the dungeon queues are going to be with two new DPS classes and no new healers or tanks.
