Are you familiar with Funcom's hide-and-seek multiplayer spoop-em-up? If not, then the announcement of Hide and Shriek free to play is a great way to get acquainted. And to also be properly jumped at by creepy and fun Halloween masks.

hide and shriek free to play

It's been a while since we were last here, so let's review; Hide and Shriek is a 1v1 first-person multiplayer game where invisible players sneak around setting traps to both scare their opponent and determine where their competition is hiding. Players can cast spells to lock down, throw back, or reveal a person's position, as well as manipulate items in the game like doors to try and lure their prey. The first to initiate three scares or earn the most points in 10 minutes wins.

"[Hide and Shriek] was a smaller-scale project that allowed our North Carolina studio to get to grips with the Unreal Engine, but it also became quite a hit among the players who jumped in when we released it during last year’s Halloween," says executive producer Scott Junior. "Our hope is that by now going free to play there will be many more gamers to play with, making it easier to quickly find and get into one-vs-one multiplayer matches."

Hide and Shriek is available now through Steam. You can also check out a trailer for the announcement below.

Our Thoughts

Awesome! When we reviewed Hide and Shriek last year, we found it a simplistic yet fun and thematic experience that was well worth its low asking price, so making it free to play just adds more icing to an already very sweet cake. We're definitely eager to hop back into Little Springs High once again!
