Project: Gorgon has been hanging around on early access for a little while now, but it’s a title that we still think deserves the Indie Spotlight. Created by just two people - a husband and wife duo, no less - you’d be hard-pushed to find something that fits the ‘indie’ mould more. Unless it’s that MMORPG that was created by just one person, of course.

Project: Gorgon is an MMORPG for true aficionados. Harkening back to the days when most MMORPGs weren’t as easy, players are thrown in at the deep end without an immediate sign of where to go and what to do. Its fantasy setting is a familiar one, but myriad secrets are hidden around the world.

The determination to keep its intricacies obscured is stark, with even the official Wiki page attempting to dissuade inquisitive eyes from unearthing secrets. After all, nothing beats the sense of accomplishment brought about by discovering something new for yourself. And in their mission to break away from the hand-holding of modern titles, it makes a lot of sense.

Project: Gorgon Oh, and you can turn into animals.

As a game created by just two people, the early access is already incredibly impressive. What Project: Gorgon may lack in graphics it more than makes up for in gameplay. The game pulls off a unique yet old school MMORPG experience with unparalleled freedom.

In a similar vein to Albion Online, players aren’t pigeon-holed into choosing classes and their corresponding skills. Instead, players are presented with a smorgasbord of skills to pursue as they see fit, with everything from swordsmanship to vampirism on the table. Plus, by thoughtfully pairing skills, players can maximise their potential - such as improving your hand-eye coordination with a blade through studying calligraphy.

While the jury’s out on when we’ll see a full release for Project: Gorgon, it certainly doesn’t seem to be losing momentum. With an active community still partaking in online discussions and the team still polishing it up for release, we’re hopeful about seeing the fully-fledged end result sometime soon.

With that being said, many are already lauding Project: Gorgon as a superior title to other available MMOs in its current state. So if you’re excited about getting stuck in, we’d say there’s probably no time like the present - so head over to their Steam page and show your support.
