The rich history of Middle Earth continues to unfurl with the latest update to Lord of the Rings Online. Update 30: Blood of Azog sees Prince Durin grapple with his first test as leader of the Gabil'akkâ. Additionally, the legendary Battle of Azanulbizar has been reimagined through Tales of Yore content alongside a new raid facing off against the notorious Durin’s Bane. Only this time you can be damn sure that your plucky Hobbit main will be involved. Just like the history books described.
Blood of Azog is a new interlude story set after the events of the War of Three Peaks and before the anticipated Gundabad-themed expansion. As Durin prepares to reclaim the ancestral home of the Dwarves, players can seize the opportunity to prepare whilst meeting new Dwarf-folk clans and characters. It is free to VIPs or available to purchase as a Quest Pack in the LOTRO store.
Part of the update includes a trip through time itself with Tales of Yore: Azanulbizar. The Blood of Azog questline will lead players to living out the famous battle after speaking with Glóin at Annâk-khurfu in Elderslade. Alternatively, players can skip the middle-Dwarf and travel to Akrâz-zahar in the Dwelling-halls of Erebor. Then click on the Tales of Yore: Azanulbizar collection of books to travel to the new quest area.

Despite appearances, players will in fact be carrying out the battle through the eyes of Hermáth Stormhammer as recounted in his written works. However, whilst in Azanulbizar, players can also have a literal stab at Durin’s Bane itself.
Players can join the ill-fated King Náin I in this 12-player raid against the Balrog of Morgoth by approaching the gates of Khazad-dûm. Needless to say, this long-awaited raid will no doubt be swarmed by glory-seeking adventurers. Even if we all know how history plays out in the end.
