It’s a common feature of our Feelgood Friday segment, but it often bears repeating: video games can have an incredibly positive impact on mental health. And the fact remains when it comes to helping veterans whose ability to seek out mental health support can sometimes be surrounded by stigma.

Whether it’s treating PTSD through virtual reality, or reigniting a lost sense of camaraderie through online gaming, video games can help ease the mental health conditions that can affect 20% of veterans who have served since 9/11.

To highlight the positive effects of gaming on veterans’ mental health, Verizon has put together a video showcasing the stories of three veterans who have found solace in video games.

Last year, as veterans faced feeling even more isolated thanks to the pandemic, Verizon launched a challenge that saw $30,000 donated to four military charities. This year, Verizon is looking to build on that success with the **Verizon Warrior Series**, a [**World of Warships**](https://www.mmogames.com/game/world-of-warships/) charity tournament created in partnership with [Wargaming](https://eu.wargaming.net/en) and [Wounded Warrior Project](https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/).

The tournament will see World of Warships fans interacting with the title’s iconic warships in new ways whilst raising money for charities that help veterans in need. A whopping $100,000 prize pool is set to go to these charities, whilst donation drives throughout the tournament will bolster the overall kitty.

Verizon will also be providing special discounts to Those Who Serve communities as well as a $75 in-game content military promo for World of Warships.

The World of Warships charity tournament will be taking place this Sunday 8th August. So to catch the grand finale, be sure to check out the official website - and take the opportunity to donate if you’re able.
