The Ashes of Creation Cleric Gives the Class Some Bite
Intrepid Studios has delivered its latest monthly update, demonstrating the powers of the Ashes of Creation Cleric archetype, as well as the spectacle that is the day/night cycle and constellations.
It's been a while since we checked up on Ashes of Creation. But it's safe to say that things are ticking along rather nicely as Intrepid works towards the Alpha 2 stage of development, which is yet to receive a release date. A point that the team were keen to stress in their recent livestream as an explanation for animations and models that might look less-than-polished. Though we've got to say, it looks almost good enough to release next year (seriously guys, please let us play soon).
The star of the show in this livestream was the Ashes of Creation Cleric archetype, a role assumed by Intrepid CEO Steven Sharif himself. This support class should be familiar to most people as a primary healer in any MMO or tabletop game, though there are some interesting features to expect from the Ashes of Creation Cleric.
For instance, to help dole out DPS when the healing's done (remember - "always be casting"), a nifty mechanic in AoC will see the Cleric's primary single-heal ability morph into a damage-dealing spell when turned on an enemy. Doing this in the midst of battle will then charge up the Cleric's 'Convictions', which are basically buffs to help supercharge the Cleric's array of abilities.
Speaking of buffed-up abilities, the team demonstrated how synergies can work when two players' abilities are combined in battle. For instance, an ability that applies the Staggered condition to an enemy can be upgraded to an even more debilitating Stun condition when the enemy is hit with another player's staggering ability. This should make for some pretty neat experiences when players can pull these kinds of strategies off.
The team also showed off the day/night cycles that we can expect in the game. The cycle will occur over the course of a few hours, with specific times to be determined. And the time of day will have some noticeable effects in the world. During the night, for instance, players might find that constellations will power-up certain abilities, or reveal certain relics.
In all, it was a pretty exciting stream that once again helped to demonstrate just how well this highly anticipated MMO is coming along. Could we be looking at a 2023 release? Probably not, but you can bet we'll hope and pray.
