Pippin's actor is venturing into MMO voice acting - though not the MMO you'd expect.
LOTR's Billy Boyd Lends His Voice to ESO's High Isle
These days, there is no shortage of great voice actors in video games. And while some MMOs don't necessarily land the A-listers present in AAA solo romps like Cyberpunk 2077 , MMOs like Star Trek Online are past masters at fanservice through hiring voice actors straight from the source material. And while it would be cool if Lord of the Rings Online had the budget to do the same, Elder Scrolls Onlinedecided to snatch up Billy Boyd, AKA Pippin, for themselves.
ESO's latest expansion, High Isle, sees adventurers swashbuckling their way through the lands of the Bretons in the all-new Systres Archipelago. New content includes a secret order of knights, a smidgeon of pirate-y goodness and a brand new collectible card game (finally). Which is where our Pippin-portraying friend comes in.
Boyd is set to portray Braghas in the newest ESO tale, a charismatic Wood Elf that introduces players to Tales of Tribute, an 'original' fast-paced collectible card game that players can play against each other, or NPCs in a similar vein to FFXIV's Triple Triad.
And judging from the promo video that was recently released by ESO , Boyd has enjoyed throwing himself into the role. "This character is a gambler, he's a talker, he likes people," says Boyd. "How he attacks this game, this new card game, is how he attacks life: all in. He is just all in on everything."
Of course, this isn't the first big name that ZeniMax have managed to rope in for a cameo. Hollywood royalty including Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, John Cleese and Michael Gambon are just a few names that have lended their distinctive voices to the sprawling Elder Scrolls MMO. Providing MMO-playing film buffs everywhere an even bigger reason to dive in.
High Isle is set to release on 6th June for PC and 21st June for console. Be sure to swing by the official website to see all the new content in store.
