Feelgood Friday: A Gaming Bundle to Support the Victims of Ukraine

Written by Alex Sinclair Lack at 03/04/2022, 02:49 AM

The deadline for games joining the Bundle for Ukraine is imminent, with launch aimed for March 7th.

It's all too easy to feel hopeless when looking on at the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine. Though as the saying goes, it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. And that is exactly what game developer Brandon Sheffield did when putting together "Bundle for Ukraine".

What we do as game developers can have a very positive effect on the world.

Bundle for Ukraine is a collection of games from different developers that will donate its proceeds to charities that treat victims of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Game developers can submit their games to the bundle as long as they are not otherwise free games, from there they will be vetted for quality. The bundle will donate all of its proceeds to two charities that are currently providing support in Ukraine – Voices of Children and International Medical Corps.

Currently most games are from small indie studios, but with Necrosoft Games releasing a callout, there is hope that some big names will join too. The official deadline for games looking to partake is today though Brandon has signalled his openness to late entries. The launch is planned for Monday 7th.

On why they are helping out with the campaign, Necrosoft Games' answer was clear, stating that they are “an international team split across Europe and the US, with friends in Ukraine, and teammates directly affected by Putin’s regime.”

Citing previous charity bundles, Brandon adds that “what we do as game developers can have a very positive effect on the world.” The Bundle for Ukraine is not the only initiative from the gaming industry hoping to pressure for peace or support the victims of war. A long list from CD Projekt Red to EA to This War of Mine are adding their voices and wallets to the cause. There are many ways to help the victims of the invasion, but a nice starting point is donating to one of the charities above or buying yourself a bundle of new games.
