The Elden Ring reception hasn't been all sunshine and roses.
PC Issues Damage Otherwise Perfect Elden Ring Reception
On launch day, we reported how critics were describing Elden Ring as a bona fide masterpiece of our time. And whilst that may still be true, the Elden Ring reception over the weekend may have been a little rockier than hoped by FromSoftware now that the public at large have their mitts on it. Because a spate of negative Steam reviews have tarnished a nigh-spotless image thanks to one problem in particular: too much stuttering.
It was a concern that the latest souls-like title was facing from the get-go. With a Day-One Patch failing to rectify some early bugs and framerate drops for PC players in particular. As a result, there are many who - whilst still lauding the game's content - can't recommend the title at this time for those reasons.
"It's great, it's fantastic, it feels like a culmination of everything FS has learned so far.
it is objectively, unquestionably a good game…as of right now, with all these tech problems, stuttering, crashing, poor optimization, i can't recommend it. Which is a shame, but with all the time in between, it's just not excusable. i'll change it when the issues are fixed, but right now all the fun is being sucked out of my experience." Writes Soup Hands via Steam. A sentiment that is mirrored by the majority of PC-playing negative reviewers.
The result is a 'mostly positive' response to the game on Steam, with 77% of all reviews giving the blue thumbs up. This is an increase from earlier in the weekend, and we imagine that once the problems are resolved, it'll be 'overwhelmingly positive' all the way for Elden Ring.
Plus, in spite of criticism, the Elden Ring reception has translated into record-breaking sales for FromSoftware, with it being the fastest selling 'Souls' game thus far in the UK boxed charts.
