As everyone loses their minds over AI chatbots, NFTs and metaversal mayhem, it can be easy to forget that one MMORPG was way ahead of the curve on all this sci-fi worthy technology. Namely, Entropia Universe. This year, MindArk's sci-fi MMO turns 20 years old, making it older than World of Warcraft, and nearly as old as old grandpappy RuneScape. And it's a milestone that makes Entropia Universe 2023 look rather exciting.

Unlike those that sink thousands into an in-game cosmetic on a standard MMO like WoW, in-game purchases are bonafide investments. Entropia's withdrawable currency, Project Entropia Dollars (PED) has a fixed exchange rate of 10:1. Meaning that earning 1,000 PED in game can be redeemed for $100 in real life. Which isn't too shabby for a day's gaming.
But now that play-to-earn games are a dime a dozen (literally), Entropia Universe 2023 looks like one to keep a beady eye on. As it celebrates TWEN (Twentieth Entropia New Year), players can begin to farm mobs of AI adversaries that have recently arisen as a portend to a larger scale attack in the future. Players will be able to sell a variety of resources to Omegaton via the Calypso auction during this time for a tidy profit.
Plus, players can continue to obtain lootable Entropia Unreal Tokens throughout the TWEN event and beyond. These tokens can be converted into Entropia Unreal Shares on the Entropia Exchange, which will receive revenue equal to 1% of MindArk's revenue (calculated after Planet Partner revenue split). In addition to being lootable from all creatures, players can also win Entropia Unreal Shares as prizes throughout Entropia Universe 2023.
All of this will occur in the leadup to Entropia Universe adopting Unreal Engine 5, bringing this metaversal mainstay into the modern era of gaming as MindArk continues to develop key gameplay features such as exploration. A fully playable part of the world with close-to-final visuals is slated for the first half of the year, so watch this space.
