GameBlast22 is underway and will see funds raised in aid of disabled gamers.
Feelgood Friday: GameBlast22 - A Fundraising Weekend for Disabled Gamers
Though a great many of us don't need any excuse to game, an event heralded as 'the best excuse to game ever' is certainly one that piques our interest. And to say that it is also geared to help disabled gamers comfortably join in on the gaming fun is just the icing on the cake.
GameBlast22 is a gaming weekend orchestrated by SpecialEffect taking place from now until 27th February, and will see hundreds of gamers take on sponsored fundraising gaming-themed challenges of their own design. These will include the bread-and-butter marathon livestreams and ever-lucrative speedruns, as well as IRL activities such as pub quizzes and fitness challenges.
Over the last seven years GameBlast has raised over £1m to help SpecialEffect create custom control setups for disabled gamers, and collaborate with the industry to ensure games are as accessible as possible. And with the last two years imposing serious barriers against face-to-face fundraising, this year's GameBlast has a more important role to play than ever.
In addition to individual gamers tackling their own challenges, some industry top-dogs will also be taking part including SEGA, Corsair and Coatsink. In fact, the SEGA community has a team of over 60 streamers participating.
Marta Camilo, Digital Design Manager at SEGA Europe from SEGA said "I love taking part in GameBlast as a streamer. It's so thrilling, the energy is always positive and everyone, from viewers to streamers and industry, unite for a cause they care about."
SpecialEffect's Tom Donegan commented: "GameBlast is so close to our hearts here at SpecialEffect because it's all about gamers coming together to help their fellow gamers. The range of challenges streamers take up to support the charity is always such a joy to see and it's a real feel-good weekend from start to finish! A huge thank you to everyone taking part and we hope they all have a fantastic time while raising vital funds."
