Feelgood Friday: Gaming for Good is Ending Youth Homelessness

Gaming for Good is an annual UK-based fundraising event that aims to end youth homelessness through the awesome power of gaming. And it’s back at it again in 2022, with a call-out to gamers across the country to help in whatever way they can. Needless to say, bringing about positive changes by playing video games is definitely our kind of fundraiser.
There are 121,000 young people facing homelessness in the UK. An infuriatingly high number for such a wealthy nation, but here we are. However, to highlight both this and the kind nature of many Brits, charity collective End Youth Homelessness is calling for participants to attempt to raise £121 each in this year’s Gaming for Good event.
End Youth Homelessness held the first ever Gaming for Good event last year and raised over £40,000. The collective comprises 11 local charities, each banding together to offer support services and housing to over 40,000 16 to 25-year-olds facing homelessness.
Speaking to UK-based street newspaper The Big Issue, End Youth Homelessness managing director, Nick Connolly, said “We know the cost of living crisis is forcing many people to make tough decisions but for homeless young people – who already receive lower minimum wage, more meagre benefits and have not got family to fall back on – it is catastrophic.”
To take part in this year’s Gaming for Good, charitable gamers need to first sign up and create a Game For Good fundraiser through Just Giving or the Gaming for Good website. Fundraising options are then myriad, although End Youth Homelessness suggests some options in its fundraising pack.
Participants can then choose a date between 12th and 26th February to host their gaming fundraiser on. Then it’s just a matter of trying to reach that £121 goal, and have fun. Although we doubt there will be any complaints if that limit is exceeded.
