The Riot Social Impact Fund will be allocating $6m to charities of your choosing.
Feelgood Friday: Vote for the Nonprofit You Want to Receive the Riot Social Impact Fund
Good guys Riot Games are at it again, banding together with their community to donate a hefty sum of money to some worthy causes from the Riot Social Impact Fund. And from now until December 22nd, you can help decide which charities will benefit. Democracy with an almost guaranteed positive outcome? Sign us up.
Thanks to the contributions of the community, this year's Riot Social Impact Fund has reached a whopping $6 million. This kitty is collected via fundraising skins, unique minigames and more.
The fund was only set up a few years ago in 2019, but in that time over $23 million has been raised and donated to more than 400 organizations across 25 countries. Throughout, the players themselves have chosen which cause out of three in their region should receive the lion's share of the fund.
The remaining organizations aren't left empty-handed, with each one receiving 25% of the remaining funds. The total funds for each region depend on the proportional contribution of that region, though each charity is guaranteed $10,000 minimum. Meaning it's good vibes all-round.
In 2022 alone, the Riot Social Impact Fund has managed to raise over $5.4 million in humanitarian relief to the people of Ukraine. Plus, it helped to fund the creation of SoLa Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, a place that aims to inspire and empower the next generation of Black and Brown devs, esports players, tech professionals, and entrepreneurs.
As for the current pool of $6 million, anyone can vote now for one of three charitable institutions in their country/region. And although everyone gets just one vote, that region is not restricted. Meaning that if an organization that speaks to you more is based elsewhere, you need only switch regions at the top of the page.
A full list of participating nonprofits can be found via the official news page. Voting requires a Riot account, though with the highly anticipated Riot MMO "World of Runeterra" on the horizon, it's probably safe to say we'll all be making one soon anyway if we haven't already.
