With TERA closing, another MMO bites the dust. But it's going out in style.
TERA, Closing Soon, Goes Out in Blaze of Glory
It's 'last call' for TERA players as an insanely lucrative few weeks lie ahead. With TERA shutting down on 30th June, Gameforge intends for their fantasy MMORPG to go out on a high note. A move made all the more poignant by the fact that this month marks its 10th anniversary. Is somebody cutting onions?
TERA shutting down means that servers, forums and social media will all cease to exist at 10am CEST on 30th June. But until then, Gameforge are allowing its loyal playerbase to let loose with a cavalcade of events designed to eek the most out of the title before closing time.
The decision to cease work on TERA was one made seemingly exclusively by the developer, Bluehole, with Gameforge conveying their regret for the decision. "Gameforge has happily hosted a great community in TERA for almost 10 years now, and would have happily served players even longer, but without the support of the developers this is not feasible," said Gameforge in its official shutdown FAQ.
With less than two months remaining, prospective players are still able to register to enjoy the incoming hail mary. But from 31st May, new account registrations and the ability to purchase Tera Thalers will be deactivated.
Additionally, no refunds will be issued to purchases that have been made already, although TERA Club members with a long-term membership that runs beyond the 30th June shut down date will be able to redeem a partial refund. Players can also spend their remaining TERA Thalers in the shop until the end date.
But there's a lot to get stuck into until then. As of right now, players can reap triple dungeon and Vanguard Initiative quest loot and gold. A list of ten dungeons will also be discounted, costing just one Adventure Coin.
TERA is also dishing out dome supercharged rice cake soups with some particularly powerful effects. And there's more hope than ever before of reaching epic gear, with triple enhancement chances applying to Kaia's Soul, Mahtnan and Frost Flower Gear.
It will be a sad few weeks for many TERA loyalists. However, if ever you were toying with returning to TERA, there really is no better time than now. Full details on all the permanent events can be seen on the official announcement page.
