Reports suggest we could be in for a Horizon MMO - something MMOGames.com has been long demanding!
What We Know About the Rumoured Horizon MMO
It looks like a Horizon: Zero Dawn MMORPG is in the works, and it's fair to say that we called it. The project is as yet unconfirmed, but many are circling around the idea that the "Project H" that Sony and NCSoft are working on is just that, despite NCSoft refusing to confirm or deny. Well, we love a healthy bit of speculation (some wilder than others), so here's everything we know about the Horizon MMO that may be announced soon.
According to a report by South Korean financial news site MTN, prolific MMO developer NCSoft has begun collaborating with Sony on a game utilizing the Sony IP 'Horizon' - AKA the universe in which Zero Dawn and its sequel, Forbidden West, are set.
NCSoft may be familiar to fans of such MMO classics as Lineage, Aion Online, and the acclaimed Guild Wars series. Reports from a source familiar with Sony and NCSoft that the two are collaborating on the so-called "Project H", which is the alias being used in job advertisements, can therefore lead us to comfortably assume that NCSoft's involvement will be to turn this sci-fi stone-cold classic into an MMORPG for the ages.
As we argued in our article on why Horizon (among others) would make a brilliant MMO, all the pieces are there. A sprawling open world filled with aggressive robotic fauna, factions of post-apocalyptic survivors that harbor distinct yet equally zealous ways of living, and a rampant AI adversary that could spew all manner of new obstacles and stories perfectly suited to a live action game.
Making Horizon at the very least multiplayer has been on the cards for a while, too. Co-op was slated for both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, only to be cut at a later date. So it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Sony has decided to go full-throttle on the multiplayer idea and deliver the Horizon MMO that we all deserve.
