Old School RuneScape's Desert Treasure quest is finally getting a sequel, alongside other exciting additions.
The Winter Summit: A Sneak Peek at OSRS 2023
As the year draws to a close, Old School RuneScape is looking to the future with a bundle of new year's resolutions that are nothing to be sniffed at. A sequel to the 17-year-old OSRS Desert Treasure quest headlines the new content, but a brand new skill and expansions to woodcutting are also getting us pretty hyped for OSRS 2023.
Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire is a quest that has been 17 years in the making. The OSRS Desert Treasure sequel will see players visiting four brand new areas within the Kharidian Desert, each with their own boss. These include Vardovis, Duke Sucellus, the Leviathan, and the Whisperer. Spooky.
Another quest en route is the Secret of the North - a master level quest that includes a solo-only boss with valuable rewards to match. These will include upgrades to the Ancient Potion and Ancient Staff, as well as a new Venator Bow.
2023 will also see Bounty Hunter making a grand return to OSRS - a popular minigame that assigns bounties (i.e. other players) for hunters to pick off in The Wilderness. The game is designed to ease players into the dog-eat-dog world of PvP by assigning bounties of similar combat levels.
OSRS 2023 is also expanding on one of its most iconic skills: woodcutting. Jagex plans to remove resource competition in order to make the honest work that is lumberjacking a more cooperative experience that can now be enjoyed alongside friends. Plus, woodcutting findings can also be made into forester campfires with which to brew special teas.
As for the newest OSRS skill, polling has begun to see what the OSRS community would like to be introduced. Jagex is keen to get the full support of the player base before introducing such a large change, and will reveal more about it in the coming months.
But before all of that, it is, of course, the holiday season, and OSRS is celebrating in style with The Nutcracker: an exclusive pub for only the most festive of adventurers. What that means exactly remains to be seen, but players can find out for themselves tomorrow, December 14th.
