WoW Wednesday: Artist Creates Magnificent World of Warcraft LEGOPortraits

One of the most common byproducts of a successful franchise is the deluge of creative tributes it inspires. So it stands to reason that World of Warcraft, the most successful MMO franchise on the market, continues to spawn some of the most striking examples of fan art to appear on social media platforms. One such example is the World of Warcraft LEGO portraits created by the artist Poulson Designs.
Just one look at their Instagram page reveals that Poulson Designs is something of a LEGO aficionado. Although the magic of LEGO is often deployed to create majestic 3D sculptures, Poulson Designs' tactic is a little different, but no less impressive.
Poulson's designs are just one brick thick. But by stacking different colors and shades in the correct order, they are able to recreate some iconic characters in a pixelated art style. Only this kind of artwork is decidedly more tactile than a garden variety print.
Though they've recently started their World of Warcraft LEGO arc, it looks like no nerdy franchise is off the table. Marvel, Star Wars, Nintendo, and Avatar characters all have their place in the gallery. But it's the LEGO portraits of some Warcraft's Horde icons that got our attention this week.
The Lich King, Frostmourne and four Horde Warchiefs in the form of Thrall, Garrosh, Vol'Jin, and Sylvanas are among Poulson's Warcraft offerings, demonstrating their penchant for the scoundrels of Azeroth. But no matter your allegiance, there's no doubt that any of these would look great mounted on your wall.
Thankfully, anybody can recreate these LEGO masterpieces themselves by visiting Poulson Designs' Shopify, where they sell instructions for each design. It's DIY art that allows you to confidently reply "I made that" when visitors inevitably express their admiration. Though we'd always advocate crediting the originator.
