Turns out that there are plenty of people asking the age-old question: “Can’t we all just get along?”
WoW Wednesday: Cross Faction Guilds Might Be Inevitable
It looks like World of Warcraft is nearing a rather significant turning point, as one of its cornerstone features, the faction system, might soon be rewritten. At least, that's according to the prevailing theory among most players. And even Blizzard's production director, Pat Dawson, seems relatively confident that WoW cross faction guilds are inevitable.
In a chat with PCGamesN's Lauren Bergin, Dawson stated that WoW cross faction guilds have "been a hotly requested feature," and that "It's something that we are certainly considering." An unsurprising revelation, given that there has been a steady increase in cross faction features recently.
With cross faction raids and instances introduced in Shadowlands, followed by the recent introduction of cross faction tapping in Dragonflight, came a wave of positive feedback that has only helped to bolster the argument in favour of doing away with factionalism altogether.
Even for those who aren't won over by hippie notions of unity, there are also practical reasons to scrap the faction system. As demonstrated by Asmongold's failed attempt at Shadowlands' Sepulcher raid, Alliance members are few and far between, essentially forcing anyone who wants to main a Gnome into hard-mode.
Cross faction guilds would not only see Gnome and Tauren charge arm-in-arm into any situation they please (practicality be damned), but guild chat would also significantly improve mid-raid communication. Plus, friends could play together without the need to flip a coin to decide which faction they must settle on.
Then there's the lore-based argument for cross faction peace. Because facing world-ending threats time and again in tandem certainly puts the squabbles between Horde and Alliance into perspective.
Regardless, despite the apparent trajectory of the fate of factions, Dawson was quick to point out that nothing official is in the pipeline yet. Which suggests that there's nothing written into the Dragonflight lore that will unify the factions. But we can at least hope that more and more cross-faction features will steadily pave the way to a unified Azeroth in the coming months.
