V Rising Tips! What we wish we knew before playing Stunlock's gothic horror survival game.
We Wrote an FAQ Full of Great V Rising Tips
V Rising continues to warm the blood running through our icy veins. Following our V Rising review, we can safely say it's our favourite vampire game since Castlevania. But whether you're playing PvE or PvP, looking up V Rising tips is highly beneficial. There's a surprising amount to the game, including some surprising mechanics and lessons which aren't always intuitively learned. Not to mention, some choices are hard to reverse with longstanding consequences.
Turn that stone golem into your personal lumberjack.
Where should I build my castle heart in V Rising?
You should build your castle centrally, as opposed to near the southern spawn area. Given one of your earliest post-tutorial objectives is to place your castle heart, you feel pressured to place it nearby -- not fully understanding its significance and how difficult it will be to move later. By venturing further into the map, you will save yourself a lot of time later.
Resources cannot to be teleported in V Rising, so you must travel the old-fashioned way. If you've placed your castle at the very bottom of the map, that's going to require a lot more running around when you explore further north.
Should I build my castle near Cave Exits in V Rising?
That works. You could still choose to place your castle in the southern areas of the map by placing it by a cave exit. Caves are the exception to the "no fast-travelling with resources" rule. Placing your base next to one is an incredibly helpful shortcut.
Anything else about base-building locations?
You might have noticed the areas wherein you can build your base tend to be expansive. That's because you'll need plenty of space for expansion. While most are large, some are larger and cooler than others with multi-level hills that will be more practical and more iconic for your gothic keep. Choose wisely.
Where can I find iron in V Rising?
Iron is only found in a few locations in V Rising. The best way to find iron, as with any other resources, is to hover over discovered locations on the map to see what the main resources are. There is, however, one very central location (almost the dead-centre of the map) named the Haunted Iron Mines that you should seek out. These mines are jampacked full of all the iron you'll ever need, although they're also jampacked full of formidable foes.
Should I decorate my castle early on in V Rising?
By all means beautify your castle with all the floating candles and gargoyles your heart desires but know that you will almost certainly want to renovate or rebuild it multiple times as you unlock new rooms, new décor, and more. Later, you can truly make it spectacular.
Can I name my chests in V Rising?
Yes. V Rising chests can be named and renamed, but we wouldn't blame you for missing that. There is a small pencil icon on storage furniture. Simply click on it to rename name. Once you've done so, if you click "Compulsively sort" with that chest open, you'll automatically deposit corresponding item types with the items in there. It's a real timesaver.
Any V Rising resource gathering tips?
If you find yourself some high-quality "worker" blood to drink, you'll gain a pretty major 30% boost to the volume of resources you'll gather. That's why it's always good to keep your prisons fully stocked with peons.
How else can I reduce the grind in V Rising?
Break up the monotony of tree-chopping and stone mining by turning your foes into your labourers. And no, we're not talking about the traditional route of domination. When you have a powerful enemy who uses AoE attacks, make them chase you for a while. They'll devastate the local environment in seconds, saving you the legwork of having to endlessly chop wood. Turn that stone golem into your personal lumberjack.
What's the deal with horses in V Rising?
Horses are great for getting around. You can also build an unofficial paddock or stables in your base where you can keep them for later. However, note that horses, like vampires, have a thirst to quench. You must equip them with waterskins if you wish to keep them long-term. Moreover, many players don't notice that different horses have different stats. Get yourself a stallion, baby.
How to prevent V Rising's garlic debuff?
The garlic debuff is brutal. Unfortunately, those pesky farmers sling it up everywhere around their farms. While you can take potions to lessen its effects, the best thing you can do is making farm-raids the last part of your expeditions. If you need cotton, iron and quartz, get the iron and quartz first.
What's the point of bookcases in V Rising?
Bookcases might just seem like an aesthetic addition, but they have more storage capacity than chests.
Should I bother with fishing in V Rising?
Absolutely. As in so many MMOs, fishing ain't just for fish. You can hook many an unexpected item, aesthetic and otherwise.
Why do I keep dying in V Rising?
Gear is everything in V Rising. While of course perseverance and experimentation with different skills is absolutely worthwhile, if you find yourself dying over and over again, it's almost certainly a gear issue. The mechanics of V Rising dictate that if you are facing an enemy with a higher loot level than you, then you will be at a severe disadvantage. Get back to your forge, whack out your tongs, and come back for more when you're ready.
Any bonus V Rising tips?
In the Haunted Iron Mines, there is a boss that isn't technically a boss -- the Undead Commander. Defeating the Undead Commander isn't easy but may result in a hefty reward -- the SoulReaper weapon. It's better than iron weapons, although be warned the recipe is non-shareable. If you can't defeat the Undead Commander alone, direct the other hostile NPCs of the mines towards him and let them do the hard work.
