After what was an agonisingly long wait for some, the Chains of Domination update is nearly here. And it couldn’t arrive soon enough, after what has been a tumultuous few weeks for brand loyalty. Could this be the reinvigoration that WoW is looking for? Probably not, it’s just an update. But we’ll be damned if we’re not still excited for June 29th (June 30th in the EU).

Chains of Domination brings an entirely new location to the Shadowlands. Following the defeat of Sire Denathrius, the Maw still grows. The Jailer has managed to summon Korthia, the City of Secrets, from the In-Between. This new area stages the next confrontation, this time with the four Covenants fighting under one unified banner. Plus, the previously inaccessible Desmotaeron has opened up, which gives way to a spicy 10-boss raid featuring Sylvanus Windrunner herself.

The update also brings a new mega-dungeon: Tazavesh, The Veiled Market. The dungeon houses exotic wares, merchants and creatures, and culminates in a high-stakes heist involving powerful artefacts from Azeroth. Plus, players can now take to the skies in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald and Ravendreth.

Chains of Domination

As for why it’s taken this long to release Chains of Domination, it seems that it was a matter of juggling their two titles. When speaking to LingHunFuSu (aka Neo), Raider.io Chinese community liaison, WoW director Ion Hazzikostas said that they wanted to avoid releasing the major Retail WoW update at the same time as the Burning Crusade Classic update.

“While we want to avoid too much collision between the two, we also understand that there are many players who only play Classic, and there are many players who only play Shadowlands,” he said. “We don’t want to punish one group in order to avoid a conflict for the other, while still trying to make sure that each game has some time and space to breathe on its own.”

All we can say is that we’re happy it's finally here. The question now is whether this will effect the FFXIV migration.
