As if the spacefaring MMORPG wasn’t pretty enough, EVE Online has recently undergone a graphical overhaul. As it nears the big ‘2-0’, CCP Games are evidently keen to maintain EVE’s place at the cutting edge of the industry. And the fact that the next big massacre is going to look even more mind-blowing is just another happy consequence.

Dubbed Bring Out EVE’s Colors, the huge visual update is partly thanks to the invaluable feedback offered by Capsuleers who tested the new graphical features on the Singularity test server. The update is sure to have many Capsuleers scrambling for a hardware upgrade as it looks impeccable at a higher levels of graphical performance.

What will the new EVE graphics look like?

Bring Out EVE’s Colours will implement the following changes:

  • Shader adjustments

  • New lighting changes

  • Brighter and deeper colours

  • Gradients smoothing out and better represented highlights

But it’s probably better to check out the visual comparison for yourself:

As you can see, the interaction between light and objects has been significantly improved. And in a game in which metallic hulls and coarse rock are forever flying past big blinding balls of light we’d say that’s a pretty important factor.

CCP has even invited players to revisit old haunts and explore the expanse of New Eden all over again given the sheer scale of the overhaul. And in doing so, they hope that Capsuleers continue to feed back on areas that may still require some adjustment.

The overhaul of the EVE graphics is just another step towards preparing for the transition from DirectX 9 to DirectX 12. And if it’s a sign of things to come, we think that the future of EVE is looking particularly bright.
