The EVE Alliance Tournament XVII began over the weekend. Naturally, there’s plenty at stake for the 40 competing teams. Prize ships designed by Mordus Legion and the glory of victory hang in the balance. But this year, another prize worthy of 2021 awaits the competitors who strike a final blow: EVE NFTs.

With NFTs being all the rage in today’s climate, introducing limited edition images as spot-prizes for players who may not seize overall victory, but achieve the enviable accolade of the killing blow is a savvy move by CCP Games. The killers will be listed as the owners of these NFTs, to then use as they deem fit.

And, ever the do-gooders, the EVE devs have even opted to dish these out in the most environmentally-friendly way possible by partnering with the Tezos Blockchain.

The Tezos Proof of Stake mechanism uses two million times less energy than similar Proof of Work networks. This means that the 4,000 maximum EVE NFTs being doled out throughout the Alliance Tournament consume less power than what it takes to run a mid-tier gaming PC for three hours. Which is less than what a single viewer watching just a tenth of the whole tournament will use.

Speaking of the viewers, it’s not just participants that can reap rewards. Each day of the tournament will see regular giveaways in the form of SKINS, EVE watches, USB hub Rifters, EVE merch vouchers and a selection of ship models from Mixed Dimensions. All attainable by watching the live Twitch stream as the tournament continues.
