A very lucky few got to experience the highly-anticipated community sim, Palia, last week. The Palia pre-alpha followed a tidal wave of hype (which we were happy to surf) and shone multiple spotlights on Singularity 6, the independent team comprising devs from powerhouse studios such as Riot, Blizzard and Epic. And it goes without saying that the pressure is now on to deliver.

It was with that in mind that Singularity 6 began the pre-alpha, stating in their follow-up blog post that sticking to the original vision and values was paramount. Thousands of super-keen players registered to take part in the Palia pre-alpha, giving the team plenty of scope to test out their systems.

It’s certainly safe to say that the event was a success. Throughout the period, players were able to:

  • Catch 78,650 bugs

  • Harvest 76,431 crops

  • Hunt 128952 beasts

  • Bake 153 pies

And the team invited all who were involved to Discord debrief to reflect on their experiences. Here’s what some had to say:

“I really started to think about how Palia could become a daily part of my life and just a peaceful place for me to return…I realize Palia made me a more peaceful and happier person.”

– ATownDowner

“I was not expecting the game to be as built out as it was. I could already see the vision and many of the character models. The whole game is going to be lovely and I’m really excited for it.”

– Frumpopotamous

“This game has the ability to make other people and myself nicer, and more friendly. They often go out of their way to help others, and that was something that I really enjoyed, and gave me a lot of hope for the future.”

– Clocknotwork

So it would seem that, as a title that is already being lauded for its fresh take on the MMO genre as something to bring people together as part of a relaxing online community, it’s so far, so good. And we wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to sign up and be a part of the next, soon to be announced, testing phase for Palia.
