Total War: Arena fans on Reddit saw an announcement yesterday that no one expected… Total War: Arena Shutting Down in February. In a developer newsletter, it was announced that service for the game would be ending on February 22nd after the results of the open beta test didn’t meet expectations.
The newsletter goes on to say that the technological advancements the development team made while working on the game would go on to be used in future Total War titles. As a thank you to all Total War: Arena players Creative Assembly are offering a free piece of Total War content that can be chosen from the following four.
Total War: MEDIEVAL II – Definitive Edition
Hannibal at the Gates (Total War: ROME II DLC)
Age of Charlemagne (Total War: Attila DLC)
Grim and the Grave (Total War: Warhammer DLC)
This is only available to those who have previously played Total War: Arena and registration of new accounts is now closed. To take advantage of this offer follow the link provided in the in-game news. In addition, if you have spent any real money in Total War: Arena’s premium shop or bought a starter pack your unspent gold and premium time can be transferred to World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, or World of Warships at a 1 to 1 exchange rate.
They also released one final patch to the game yesterday for players who remain to enjoy until the game shuts down. The patch makes some changes to compensate for a smaller matchmaking pool.
For Total War: Arena fans there is a full FAQ that goes into great detail on how to claim the various benefits and free items as well as briefly discussing why the game is shutting down. The final question in the FAQ asks if this means Creative Assembly will be moving away from multiplayer focused games. They say that they will not and that they’re still committed to exploring high-quality multiplayer experiences in the future.
