Move aside Kevin Costner! If you ever wanted to play a waterbound apocalyptic MMO, this could be your chance.
Waterworld MMO Age of Water Opens Closed Beta Testing Registration
Upcoming water-based survival MMO Age of Water is opening sign-ups for its closed beta test this summer, giving prospective players the chance to live out their pirate fantasies or get in some practice for the future of humanity. Either way, it looks like gallons of fun.
Age of Water is the Waterworld MMO we never knew we needed. In a future where the world has been submerged entirely by the ocean, survivors live on the roofs of high-rises, upon artificial islands, or aboard their very own ships. With such a wealth of post-apocalyptic survival games focussing on zombies and nuclear fallout, Age of Water looks like a breath of fresh sea air.
While not an official Waterworld MMO, the comparisons between Age of Water and the Kevin Costner B-movie classic are undeniable.
To survive and thrive upon the endless high seas, players will need to upgrade their ship's hull, equipment and weapons to stave off the threat of pirates or to adopt a pirate's life themselves. Engaging in trade and diplomacy will be necessary to developing one's wealth and a stalwart crew with which to explore, complete quests and uncover the mysteries of this vast ocean world.
By investing in upgrades, players can turn their modest motorboat into a bonafide destroyer with vessels reaching up to 30m in length. When pooling their efforts together, sailing survivalists can find themselves in command of a flotilla of ships capable of carrying out mass operations including questing, marauding or extracting the ample resources from the ocean floor, with floating fortresses acting as a base of operations.
So if the idea of a Waterworld MMO floats your boat, then now's the chance to sign-up for the first Age of Water closed beta test, due to release this summer. Prospective players can register their interest via the official website. Though bear in mind that participants will be chosen at random. The lucky few that make the cut, however, will receive a link to download the game along with other necessary information.
