The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase took place over the weekend and it's safe to say there were some significant reveals. Which isn't so surprising from the video games company behind the biggest acquisition in the industry's history. Speaking of which: Diablo 4 will be arriving next year.

The timing of the Diablo 4 release date is interesting. By 2023, players will have had ample time to either stew over the controversial Diablo Immortal, or simmer down and move on. Either way, we think that Blizzard had better adopt a wildly different monetization structure if they want to avoid losing any more loyalists.

For those that aren't aware, Diablo 4 is the game that the crowd of fans wanted and expected to receive when they were instead slapped with a mobile game during the notorious reveal at Blizzcon 2018. A response that became oh-so vindicated upon the release of Diablo Immortal, which has now drawn near-universal ire from the gaming community for its predatory pricing. Suffice to say, then, that Diablo 4 - a PC & console game - has been a highly anticipated sequel for some years now.

Blizzard announced the Diablo 4 release window alongside the trailer for everyone's favourite edgelord class: the necromancer. A beautifully morbid CGI trailer depicting the knowledge-seeking outcast marked the fifth and final reveal of the Diablo 4 classes, as it joins the Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid and Rogue.

The reveal also came with an extensive gameplay trailer that showed just how flashy the new Diablo will look on Xbox Series X. The trailer informed us that Diablo 4 will have an open world with over 150 dungeons and the ability to tackle challenges together with other players - or face-off against one another. The devs also promised a rich endgame, which they promise to support "for years to come".
