After two long years of beta, we finally have a Dual Universe release date. And we’re psyched.
The Dual Universe Release Date is Finally Here
The day has finally arrived for sci-fi sandbox Dual Universe to release in full. And if you think it's been a long time coming, that's probably because it has; eight years, to be precise. But as we all know by now, good things come to those who wait.
In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking that Dual Universe was already released, given that it's spent a very fruitful two years in its beta stage. During that time, Novaquark has delivered asteroids, territory mining, missions, new PvP mechanics (as well as more reasons to fight one another, because violence is fun when it's pretend), creation systems like the Vertex Precision Tool, and the new Lua API.
Dual Universe has come to be known for its industry-leading voxel technology, which has allowed the Noveans of Dual Universe to build some truly outstanding structures in deep space. It's an incredibly ambitious project that we're thrilled has come to fruition.
Now everyone can join in on the project as the Dual Universe release date is set for September 27th. Novaquark will shut down all servers six days before launch on September 22nd and will offer six days free to anybody with an active subscription to compensate for the downtime.
Plus, anyone who isn't sure they can handle the sheer vastness of space and freedom in this starbound playground can dip in for free with a trial that will be exclusively accessible via Steam on launch. These trial players will be placed in a regularly reset separate server so as to not impact the persistent world of the main server.
Plus, to try and draw any who might have fallen by the wayside back into the fold, Dual Universe will be offering two weeks of game time to any account whose subscription lapsed at any time during the beta. This allows Novaquark to show off everything that might have changed in the meantime, and potentially reignite the spark for any erstwhile Noveans.
We look forward to seeing how this new universe will be shaped by the players after the Dual Universe release date hits. Perhaps we'll even have to start up a regular series in the same vein as our Stories of EVE, but time will tell if Dual Universe will prove as compelling as its longstanding cosmic counterpart.
