Fallout 76 Expeditions will take players out of Appalachia and back to Fallout 3's subterranean Pitt.
Beyond Appalachia: Fallout 76 PTS Trials Repeatable ‘Expeditions’
Fallout 76 is reopening the Public Test Server (PTS) in the coming days for players to have an early go at a brand new feature. For the first time, Fallout 76 Expeditions will take players to a place beyond Appalachia embroiled in a post-apocalyptic power struggle. Said power struggles are the bread and butter of Fallout , the ability to farm XP, loot and legendary items through repeatable quests, however, is not.
Fallout 76 Expeditions are being introduced via the new Whitespring Refuge, which houses the newly reformed Responders. This helpful group have managed to get their mitts on a working vertibird, which can be charged up once per day by completing three Refuge Daily Quests. And once that bird is up and running, players can go about leading their own Expedition.
"Union Dues" is the first Mission that can be accessed through Fallout 76 Expeditions, and will demonstrate how these repeatable quests work. Each Mission will feature three randomized objectives within the same overarching story. They will also feature optional objectives, with completionists earning themselves greater rewards in the process.
In Union Dues, players will be taken to a familiar Fallout location: The Pitt. Series fans will probably recognise this subterranean city from Fallout 3 , and according to the latest Bethesda blog post, the team has been keen to revisit The Pitt in their latest title.
Descending into The Pitt will introduce players to the Union - an industrious group of survivors looking to rebuild The Pitt - and the Fanatics - a ragtag gang of raiders that wish to expand their territory.
Bossing these Missions and completing the main objectives will net players a healthy dose of XP, loot and a legendary item. Completing all optional objectives, meanwhile, will bestow one of many Pitt-themed rare item plans once per week. Plus, each successful Mission will pay players in Stamps - which are a form of currency redeemable at the Whitespring Refuge for a host of rare items.
Upon release into the PTS, Union Dues will be the first and only Mission that players can test. But once Bethesda has mulled over all the community feedback, a second Mission will be introduced ahead of the Expeditions launch later this year.
