There may be no Blizzconline, but there are still plenty of announcements incoming.
WoW Wednesday: The Warcraft 2022 Roadmap
They may be down, but they're certainly not out. This week, the Warcraft General Manager published a blog post detailing plans for the Warcraft 2022 roadmap. And it looks like we have a lot to look forward to this year. Especially if you wish you could be playing Warcraft even when you're not sitting at your PC.
In lieu of the annual Blizzcon/Blizzconline event which was cancelled in October so that Blizzard could focus on "supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences," John Hight took to the Warcraft news page to lay out several key announcements set to grace our eyes over the coming months.
Exploring the Warcraft 2022 Roadmap
The first title to receive the spotlight will be Hearthstone , the competitive card game replete with Warcraft lore, which will be receiving three new expansions this year. Details on the first expansion, as well as annual core set changes, will be unveiled in less than a week.
As for World of Warcraft, we must wait more than a month to hear about the long-awaited next expansion. The prevailing theory so far is that this expansion will take us to the Dragon Isles, following the not-so-subtle recent focus on dragon pets. Nevertheless, we will only receive confirmation on 19th April.
Aside from that, Hight simply summarised what's been happening in WoW (as if Asmongold needed reminding) and WoW** Classic**. He also reminded esports fans and participants that whoever registers by 28th March and completes the MDI Time Trials has a chance to earn the in-game Encrypted Banner of the Opportune.
Finally came the confirmation that we will be seeing a Warcraft mobile game this year. Although this was all but confirmed by the Activision Blizzard financial report we wrote about in February, we at least have the added tidbit that further info will be published in May. Whether or not this is cause for excitement, of course, remains to be seen.
