Gamescom has begun with a bang. In just the opening ceremony, gamers were treated to a cavalcade of high-profile announcements, reveals and teases. Halo Infinite unveiled a CGI trailer for its multiplayer. 2K and Firaxes announced an XCOM (but not too XCOM) style Marvel game. Black Desert’s Pearl Abyss announced that its garish Pokémon-style creature collector title DokeV is sadly no longer planned as an MMO. And the so-close-we-can-taste-it New World confirmed a window for its open beta.
New World Open Beta
Front and centre for us at the Gamescom Opening Night Live was the brand new trailer for New World. The trailer showcased some of the enthralling sights awaiting in Aeternum, unveiling some distinctive regions and honing in on its otherworldly aesthetic. The massive siege battles were also on full display as well as some of the fearsome enemies that await. All in all, it looks nothing short of epic:
Alongside the trailer came the announcement that the **New World** open beta will run from 9th - 12th September. The open beta will precede the official launch by just two weeks, giving the devs a small window in which to iron out any remaining kinks. For our money, we’d say that’s a good sign.Should you abstain from the open beta, but are still super keen, then New World pre-orders are available now via Steam.
Other Gamescom Opening Highlights
The Riders Republic beta is now open to anyone until 28th August.
A new Age of Empires 4 trailer revealed the Holy Roman Empire and the Rus.
Splitgate - a ‘Halo meets Portal’ F2P multiplayer shooter - has begun Season 0 with new challenges, maps and modes.
A King Louie in-game event is coming to Fall Guys from 3rd - 12th September featuring outfits from Disney’s Jungle Book.
Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what more is in store at this year’s Gamescom. So watch this space.
