For fans of the classic MMO, the Phantasy Star Online 2 SEA version was an oasis for English-speaking players to enjoy the game. It would appear that oasis is drying up as Playpark has announced the end of service for the Southeast Asian client.

Starting on Friday, April 21st, Refill Services will be shut down while players can still access any remaining account load through the in-game Item Mail. After that, the servers will go dark on Friday, May 26th. Playpark is offering compensation for player loyalty in the form of free 60-day Premium Access for all accounts and free AC and Gold Scratch handed out every week until the end of service.

"The Phantasy Star Online 2 team would like to express our thanks for the steadfast support of the whole ARKS Fleet," reads the announcement. "In the past two years, together, we formed a PSO2 community built on friendships that can withstand the test of time. We hope to continue to go on adventures with you through the wide array of games we have to offer."

Our Thoughts

It is stupendously unfortunate that Phantasy Star Online 2 is being shuttered on the SEA side, but the Japanese variant of the game is still going strong, so truly dedicated PSO2 players can still explore the MMO's world in that way. Our condolences to all of the employees and players who are affected by this shutdown.
